NICE TO MEET YOU

One of my first memories is a piece of paper almost as big as myself and a defenseless pot of bright pink paint. As I grew up, I filled notebooks with illustrations of the natural world and scenes from literature, fueling my imagination and teaching me to see things differently. It wasn't until I had my BFA from Belhaven University in 2016, and a few years getting my life in order doing the coffee-shop-hop, that I started to truly form an identity as an artist. Today, I work with watercolor and colored pencils to try to capture what I see in sunsets, creek beds, and mountain ranges as I continue to evolve within my own visual language.

I work to express that which is inexpressible for me in any other media. I use art to remember things I will never see again, things there are no photos of, and places there is no way back to. To celebrate experiences I have no words for and to feel things I would otherwise never allow myself. And it's been a walk worth every step.

“The most important thing about art is to work. Nothing else matters except sitting down every day and trying.”

Steven Pressfield, The War of Art
